Welcome to the FORECASTER web-based tool! This is a knowledge and information system relating hydromorphology and ecology of European rivers. The system presents a compilation of case studies describing the output from restoration and rehabilitation projects and is intended to aiding practitioners by presenting experiences about success or failure of the application of different measures.

The system has been developed as part of the project FORECASTER funded by the IWRM-Net and Delft Cluster and thanks to the information provided by scientists, water managers, and water authorities across Europe.

The system is set up as a Geo-wiki. Case studies are presented in a Google map which allows users to select projects according to their geographical location and explore the project site and its surroundings by zooming in and out and changing map types. Each case study has an associated wiki page where relevant information about the implementation of the project is presented.

In addition, a filter option is available to select case studies according to:

  • River typology
  • Hydromorphological pressures addressed
  • Restoration or rehabilitation measures implemented
  • Effects on the physical environment
  • Effects on biota

The system contains wiki pages with general descriptions of European River Typology, hydromorphological Pressures, restoration and rehabilitation Measures, Hydromorphological Quality Elements used to assess the effect on the physical environment, and Biological Quality Elements used to assess the effect on biota.

The information presented in these pages has been compiled from many different sources. The information is available for use with due acknowledgement of the original source.

You can also contribute by adding relevant knowledge and information in the wiki pages and/or creating new case studies!
